Smooth as silk. Soft as a baby's bottom. The appeal of freshly shaved skin has always applied to women's legs and men's faces; however, modern cosmetic and hygienic trends have come to encompass much more. Extensive hair removal was generally a female practice with armpits, upper lips and bikini lines; considered unappealing if at all hairy. But nowadays hair removal for men has become an increasingly popular and acceptable practice, for facial and back hair especially. Hair removal for men has been brought into the mainstream with guys going for that silky smooth feeling all over their bodies.

Hair removal for men is available through various methods and practices. While do-it-yourself kits are available for purchase, most hygienic experts recommend going to professional aestheticians to make the messy, painful and potentially harmful process as easy as possible.

Shaving body and facial hair has long been the accepted practice, but simply cutting hair keeps it coarse and abrasive, even accelerating its regeneration. While it is convenient to do at home and relatively painless, shaving becomes increasingly difficult for back hair and other areas. Popular hair removal for men still involves shaving facial hair, but alternative methods are taking over other areas as well.

Waxing is the other most popular method of hair removal for men. This process of spreading hot wax onto an area of skin, rubbing on a strip of muslin or cloth, and then ripping it off like a band-aid may be painful; but is extremely effective. Waxing removes hair strands and roots which can keep areas smooth and hairless for a longer period of time. When the hair grows back, it is generally softer and less uncomfortable. While waxing is painful especially the first time it is done, repeated and routine procedures become less uncomfortable.

With the messy and short lived headaches of typical procedures, hair removal for men has turned towards technological advancement. Laser hair removal has become the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure for men under the age of 35. This method of hair removal for men uses a laser to target melanin, the pigment that gives hair its color. The laser then destroys the surrounding hair follicles, disabling hair growth permanently. While laser removal does not work the same for everybody, it is relatively painless and can eliminate many of the annoyances of routine hair removal for men.

In the past, hair removal for men was generally limited to cyclists, swimmers and bodybuilders. But lately hairless skin has taken on an increased sex appeal and is thought to look clean and fresh.

Whatever the benefits are, hair removal for men is undeniably becoming more popular. With the various options available, it does not have to be as painful and embarrassing as it may seem. But as with anything involving lasers, hair removal for men requires advance research and investigation and should never be taken too lightly.
