Traditional Hair Removal Methods: Bleaching, Tweezing And Shaving

A full head of hair is an amazing attribute to have. In some cases though, it can get out of control in other areas. Despite its natural tendency to grow in wayward places, some people may want their hair strictly on the head and little elsewhere. Numerous hair removal methods have cropped up as the demand to go bare increases. While some consumers opt for advanced processes such as lasers, sugaring or threading; others choose traditional hair removal methods as their tactics.

They may be outdated in comparison to some hair removal methods, but the traditional ways have been updated in certain respects. Advancements in bleaching, tweezing and shaving offer people a simpler and less painful experience than before. The downside to these hair removal methods is they require frequent touch ups. Fortunately, they are also significantly cheaper than their modern counterparts.

Shaving is the most common form of hair removal, and arguably the most convenient. With the use of a razor and skillful hand, the hair is cut at the surface for a smooth finish. The best areas for this method are the legs, underarms and bikini area; the hair will grow back thicker and coarser. The ideal time to do so is after taking a warm shower for a while. The downside to this hair removal method is it will grow back in the next couple of days; the upside is that it is cheap and quick. A razor should be replaced once it gets dull or pulls at the skin. A razor can cost $4-$5, with a pack of four replacement blades at the same price.

One of the types of hair removal methods is not so much removing unwanted hair, as much as masking the hair. Bleaching uses a chemical to dye the hair, making it more neutral and harder to see. This method is also quick, easy and cheap. It also lasts longer than using a razor, with a period of two to three weeks. For about $5 a bottle, men and women can bleach their upper lip, arms, legs and neck in front of their mirror. The cons of bleaching are skin irritation, stinging, burning and a possible temporary discoloration of the skin.

Not all hair removal methods are as risky, tweezing being a less intimidating option. Tweezing is ideal for grooming eyebrows and other stray facial or body hairs. It involves plucking individual or groups of hair out at the root using tweezers. The results of tweezing last two to three weeks, as the hair is removed beneath the surface. It may hurt initially and is time consuming, but is the most precise of all hair removal methods for maintaining eyebrows. The cost of tweezers vary from $2-$22, according to brand.

The traditional hair removal methods are convenient for people who wish to groom themselves in the privacy of their own home. Newer processes such as sugaring, threading and laser removal require visits to aestheticians and professionals for a hefty sum. Home hair removal methods allow the consumer to be the artist and keep the extra money in their pockets. Of course, the type of method used depends on the location of the hair. It is ultimately up to the individual to decide which of the hair removal methods is best for him or her, and to to allow the areas to heal before starting a suntan or jumping into a chlorinated pool.
